Digital Ultrasound Imaging

Ultrasound imaging, also called sonography, is a painless and noninvasive procedure to visualize the inside of the human anatomy through the use of high-frequency sound waves. As the sound goes through the body, echoes are produced that can be used to identify how far away an object is, its size and how homogenous it is. Ultrasound is the most utilized form of diagnostic imaging after general x-ray, largely because no radiation is involved in ultrasound imaging.
